Tomorrow, March 7th, is bringing another full moon, so get ready for more art from The Full Moon Art Challenge.

Each month, artists make a work of art, using that month’s moon name as an art prompt. Then, they post the work on the day of, the day before, or the day after the full moon. In 2023, we’re using old Celtic moon names as our prompts. Check out the event page for all the details.

The Wind Moon Drifts In

The Celtic name for March’s Moon is the “Wind Moon,” so here’s an animated GIF, featuring that wayward wind moon:

And, just in case the animation doesn’t play, here’s the still version:

This image is a bit simple, but pretty satisfying. Making those trees move just right was the toughest part. I may have fussed over them a bit.

When I was very young, there was a pair of poplar trees in my backyard that moved like that on windy days. When I was around six years old, a wind storm damaged one beyond saving and snapped the other clean in half. Maybe that’s why I think of poplar trees when I think of trees in the wind. Probably also why I made these trees a bit shorter than full-sized poplars.

See you in April
