It’s time for October’s installment of The Full Moon Art Challenge. This month’s full moon is the Hunter’s Moon.
I chose some dark and shadowy colors for the spookiest month of the year. For the hunter figure, I think this was the way I always imaged the Greek goddess Artemis would look as the goddess of the hunt. Despite the inspiration, I wanted to make the figure look more gender-neutral, but i think it still ended up looking a bit more feminine than masculine. Still, I’m pretty pleased with the final product.
The Hunter’s Moon gets its name from from the olden days when people needed to gather and preserve more meat in the fall so they would stay fed throughout the long winter.
And, since September’s full moon rose days before the Autumn Equinox, the Hunter’s Moon is the first full moon of fall this year.
Here’s my whole page of moon art. It’s nearly complete now. It’s been fun filling up a whole page bit by bit, watching the project grow.
There’s exciting news for Full Moon fans: I’ve decided to do another Full Moon Art Challenge in 2023. I’ve already found a new batch of moon names to work from (new names will be announced in the months ahead.) Anyone who plans to try (or retry) the art challenge from the very beginning will soon get another chance. I’ve already designed a new Lunar Calendar for 2023 and ITS FOR SALE IN MY SHOP RIGHT NOW!
And speaking of shopping and October, I also added some Halloween stickers and magnets to the shop. If you’re feeling seasonal, pay the shop a visit.
See you in November for the Beaver Moon.
