   putting aside the notion that somehow they all know what a black hole is.
   the king supposedly find this just as his parents died, meaning he was still youngish and then lived to over 200 years of age thanks to this item, which is normally unheard of. Yet somehow this professor was there with the king and even outlived him. exactly how old is this professor?

      Okay, let’s clear up this timeline:

      King Mah-Nolythico may have lived for 200 years, but he’s only been dead for 50 years. At the time of the king’s death, Dr. Yapix was in his late teens.

      Yapix did not witness the formation of the black hole, but he read about a celestial event that happened hundreds of years ago. He deduced the rest, based on other star charts and his own understanding of gravity and physics.

      As for how everyone seems to know what a black hole is:

      Short answer – their understanding of astronomy is more advanced than ours.

      Long answer – In the real world, human understanding of astronomy was held back by our notion of a geocentric universe. Any research that contradicted that idea was deemed heretical, so astronomical research was discouraged or destroyed. Fabelore did not have those same constructs, so the field of astronomy developed faster. Strangely, Dr. Yapix is still being treated like a heretical scientist. Fabelore makes the same mistakes in different ways.

   My guess (no spoilers, this is the latest page I’ve read so far in the archive) is that the other scientists were threatened and/or blackmailed into turning on Dr. Yapix
