DW Ch13 P23

This page finally gives some context to something I had to leave unclear for several chapters.

Way, waaay back in Chapter Ten, I wrote a scene where everyone is enjoying a party except for Jester. Even Lyric gets way too into the festivities. After drafting that scene, I asked myself, "Would Lyric really lose herself in this moment, or am I making her break character for a joke? Lyric has a lot of trauma that she never looked after and she doesn't give nearly enough to thought to her own well-being. Is that the kind of person who can just throw themself into a party senselessly?" And then I answered myself, "Yes, that is exactly what a person with unhealed damage would do. It's actually a textbook example."

But Lyric wouldn't be able to function as herself if she always dealt with her problems by losing herself in fun. Lyric's primary escape from dealing with her damage has always been revenge.

So, here's how I reconcile those two parts of Lyric. She only chooses to have a good time when things that lead towards her revenge are not available After all, she has to distract herself with something. What's she going to do otherwise, confront her grief and try to heal? Now that's just silly.

You don't need to know all of that to follow the story or even the character's personal arcs and journeys. But it's in there.
