August’s round of the Full Moon Art Challenge falls on July 31st, August 1, and August 2nd, with the actual full moon rising on August 1st.
Lynx Moon on the Prowl
If I am being honest, some of these Old Celtic Moon Names lend themselves to animation better than others. That’s what makes the Lynx Moon so special. Animating a wild cat prowling at moonlight was a treat that I truly enjoyed.
Here’s the animated piece:

A Lynx in the Cast
While designing my animated lynx, I learned that there are four main types of lynx in the world: the Eurasian Lynx, the Iberian Lynx, the Canadian Lynx, and the Bobcat. I chose the Eurasian Lynx as the model for my animated creature, as that is the lynx most likely referenced when the people of Ireland and England named this particular moon.
Until Next Time – Don’t be Blue
This is usually the time where I tell you that I’ll update next month, but not this time! This August will host a second moon on the 30th. The second full moon in a month is a rare Blue Moon. So, if you haven’t participated in The Full Moon Art Challenge, but still want to, I recommend making one piece of art for that blue moon. Then you can tell your friends, “Yeah, I sometimes join that art challenge, but only ONCE IN A BLUE MOON.”
