April’s moon is full on the 6th, so it’s time for another installment of the Full Moon Art Challenge.

Each month, artists make a work of art, using that month’s moon name as an art prompt. Then, they post the work on the day of, the day before, or the day after the full moon. In 2023, we’re using old Celtic moon names as our prompts. Check out the event page for all the details.

The Seed Moon is Sprouting

The old Celtic name for April’s moon is the Seed Moon.

Here’s the still-frame version:

Artist can make moon art in any medium they want, but I choose animation. That made this piece a bit tough to visualize, since seeds aren’t exactly known for movement. Sure, I cold have made the seeds begin to sprout, but all my other animation can loop, so I didn’t want to suddenly throw in a piece with linear-progress. I decided to use seeds and seedlings and give them just a little motion. This has been the easiest piece to animate so far, but next month might be even simpler..

Moon Sale!

Meanwhile, in the Lepus Studios Store, my printer is running a special offer: Free Shipping on stickers and posters until April 15th!

It’s a good time for a sale because I’ve improved the design for the new moon phase stickers. They now feature cleaner outlines and vibrant colors.

These are scientifically accurate depictions of the eight moon phases as they appear from the Northern Hemisphere.

It’s worth mentioning that these are big sticker sheets, measuring 5.8 by 8 inches! That’s about the size of half a sheet of printer paper and a bit larger than the sticker sheets that are common at stationary sections.

If you think you’ll ever want a set or two, snag them now because even I don’t know when this kind of sale will happen again.

Also, the 2023 Lunar Calendar will stay online until at least the end of the sale. If you wanted one, but couldn’t justify the full price of a calendar this late into the year, now’s your chance to get one and pay less.

Come Back in May

Next month’s moon will be the Bright Moon and it rises on May 5th. This means participants can post their moon challenge art on May 4th, 5th, or 6th. I’m posting the quarter moon reminders on Twitter and Mastodon, and posting monthly schedules on Instagram. If you are having trouble keeping the lunar schedule in mind, follow me for reminders.
