Full Moon Art Challenge 2022 – April

Whoa, my events are really piling up. Just two days ago, I posted my annual Easter Egg Gallery, and now it’s already time for another installment of the Full Moon Art Challenge. (If you missed the Easter Egg Gallery, you can find the blog entry HERE and the full gallery HERE.)

As you probably know by now, the Full Moon Art Challenge is a year long art event where artists post a picture on or around the night of the full moon, using the monthly moon name for an art prompt. (See event page for rules and details)

April’s full moon rises tonight, April 16. This one is called the Pink Moon. The Pink Moon gets it’s name from tree blossoms that are usually pink and bloom a little earlier than most of the ground flowers.

Fun Fact: This full moon is also the moon that helps set the date for this year’s Easter. Easter Sunday is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox (the first day of spring). For most Western churches, that’s this coming Sunday, April 17. Eastern churches also use the full moon, but have a different formula for finding the moon’s zenith, so Easter is often on a different Sunday then the Western churches (April 24 this year.) And here’s my full sheet of moon art. We’re a third of the way through the year already, moon-wise.
