It’s October 1st and Inktober 2019 has begun.
If you’re not familiar with the concept, Inktober is a creative/skill-building exercise where artists draw and share one ink drawing each day for the entire month of October. Visit the website for more info https://inktober.com/
I’ve never participated in Inktober before, but this year I had an idea that was too good to ignore. While I am still using the daily prompts posted on the Inktober website, I’m also combining them with a theme of my own choosing. And that theme is… Kirby! I’ve matched up each of the official Inktober drawing prompts with one of the original abilities or statuses from Kirby’s Adventure for the NES (1992).
Why Kirby’s Adventure? Well, lately a lot of the kids in my family have gotten into that game. Some of them tried it because the NES Classic brought it back. Others wanted to give in a shot because they thought older games would be simpler and easier to pick up (spoiler: most of them are not.) So, after replaying all of Kirby’s Adventure several times, (once with my cousin’s daughters last spring, then again with my nephews last summer,) I’ve become very well reacquainted with the game that was once of staple of my middle school days.
Keep in mind that Kirby’s Adventure was the first game to introduce the famous “copy” ability, so I’ll be drawing only the original powers the way they first appeared (sorry, no Kirby hats). I’ve already planned out with power will be matched with each Inktober prompt, so I won’t be taking suggestions. But you’re welcome to guess which powers I’ve chosen to match each prompt. While plotting out my drawings, I was surprised to see how many powers and prompts were perfect matches. Of course, a few of them are slightly forced, but that’s part of the fun too.
I plan to post batches of ink cards on this blog three or four times, but if you want to see each card each day then I suggest you find me on one of my social media sites, as these sites tend to lend themselves to small, frequent updates:
