Announcing the Full Moon Art Challenge (All Are Welcome)

I’ve decided to start an Art Challenge. But not just any art challenge, this is an art challenge that will last the whole year! Who is with me!?

This is the Full Moon Art Challenge and anyone can join in. But this one is not a daily challenge, it’s a monthly challenge. Participating artists will do one drawing a month and post them on or around the night of each full moon.

Are there drawing prompts? Why yes. In fact, the prompts are really what inspired this whole thing.

(For those of you not familiar with art challenges, prompts are a word or phrase given to participants to inspire each illustration. You can interpret those phrases however you want, as long as they are somehow incorporated into your art.)

So, what are the prompts? Well, we are going to use common North American names as the prompts for this year’s art challenge.

For example, the next full moon is the Wolf Moon. It will rise on January 17th, 2022, so use the idea of a wolf to inspire your art, and post your pictures on January 16th, 17th, or 18th. (A complete list of each moon’s name and date is listed below.)

When you’ve finished your drawing, make sure you share your work on social media and include the proper hashtag #fullmoonartchallenge2022 so other participants can find your art.

This is a great art challenge for experts, beginners, and everyone in between. One drawing a month is not too demanding, but don’t lose track of the days or the full moon might pass you by.

I’ve already created a Twitter Account for The Full Moon Art Challenge. If you’re interested, please follow it: https://twitter.com/FullMoonArtChal

I’ve also made an event page to keep everyone informed. You can find the page HERE, but if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like to click extra links, I’ve also copied all the contents of that page and posted them below:

Full Moon Art Challenge

Did you know that each month’s full moon has a name? We’re going to use those names as drawing prompts.

Rules:

1.) Draw a picture using this month’s full moon name as a prompt.
2.) Post your picture within three days of the full moon.
3.) Use the hashtag #FullMoonArtChallenge2022
4.) Repeat for each month.

For 2022, we will use the common North American moon names as our drawing promtps.

Notes:

Does the moon itself have to be in my picture?
-Only if you want it there.

Can I use other moon names that aren’t on the list?
-The full moons have lots of names around the world, so we will change the prompt list each year. If you use a name that’s not on this year’s list, you may be using up a future prompt.

What medium can I use?
-Anything you want.

It’s hard to keep track of a monthly event. Can I cheat and draw them all at once?
-Cheat if you want, I’m not your mom. Just make sure you share them on schedule to fully participate.

I didn’t discover this event until it was half-over. Can I still join in?
-I don’t see why not.

Can I draw the moons of other planets?
-What are you even talking about? You’re getting so clever and complicated, it’s not even the same event anymore.

Is there an interesting way to keep track of the full moon?
-Why, yes. My Lunar Calendars for 2022 are in stock at my Art Station shop, in case you want to keep track the low-tech way (or if you just think they’re pretty.)
