Full Moon Art Challenge 2024 – January

Welcome to another year of the Full Moon Art Challenge, where participants make a work of art for each full moon for an entire year, using the monthly moon names as their art prompts. In this, the third year of the challenge, we are using old German moon names as our the prompts.

To find out about The Full Moon Art Challenge and learn how to join in, visit theĀ event page. Don’t forget to tag your art #FullMoonArtChallenge2024 so we can find it online.

The LUNAR CALENDAR poster for 2024 is still available and ON SALE in the shop!

January’s Winter Moon

All culture’s moon names are generally influenced by nature, but the German names focus heavily on seasons. The first full moon of the year is called the winter moon.

This year, I’ve decided my new medium will be miniture polymer clay sculptures.

Here’s my Winter Moon. It is literally a moon dressed for winter:

Here’s a photo with some change to show the scale of the sculpture:

And here’s my concept sketch:

I’m going to do a series of little moons, each accessorized to match it’s name. Will you join in too and make some moon art of your own? What will be your medium? Share your art on January 25th or 26th to join in on time. Again, don’t forget to use the hashtag, #FullMoonArtChallenge2024

Looking Ahead to February

February’s Full moon is called the “Horn Moon.” It will rise on February 24th, so share your Horn Moon art on February 23rd, 24th, or 25th.
