Earth Day 2015

My dad planted a tree yesterday.

In the past few years, the trees around my childhood home have been taking some hits. Somewhat healthy looking trees had actually fallen victim to rot and decay on the inside. Trees have been snapped in half by wind storms, tangled in power lines and even struck by lightening. Normally, I’m pro-tree, but if the trees are dying and/or endangering the local humans and wildlife, saving them might not be the most practical choice, or even the most ecologically sound choice.

Finally, my dad decided that his neighborhood had lost enough trees, so he drove to the nearest nursery and bout a dogwood tree (he always wanted a dogwood).

I asked my dad if he had chose this week to do his planting because Earth Day was coming up. I don’t think he realized that today was Earth Day.

Sometimes, we need a designated day to remind us of what we should be doing or encourage us to stop procrastinating on our plans.

Or, sometimes, we don’t need a day. We just want a tree.
